- The highest rate of dental disease is found in the aging population!
- Most seniors do not have dental insurance and are on a fixed income.
- Seniors are more likely to postpone dental treatment due to finances. This leads to more serious and expensive problems – and sometimes the unnecessary loss of teeth. Do not wait until it becomes more expensive.

"Poor oral health
is a “silent X-factor” promoting the onset of life-threatening diseases which are responsible for the deaths of millions of Americans each year.” — United States Surgeon General’s report, Oral Health in America
Oral Care Concerns due to Aging:
As our bodies age, they develop a unique set of dental health needs. Without regular visits to the dentist and good oral hygiene, a number of problems can arise. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, one in four seniors have lost all of their teeth.
Seniors susceptible to:
- Dry mouth
- Root decay
- Gum disease
- Uneven jawbone caused by tooth loss
- Denture-induced tissue inflammation
- Overgrowth of fungus in the mouth, known as thrush
- Attrition (loss of teeth structure by mechanical forces)
- Oral Cancer
These conditions can lead to further problems which adversely affects seniors’ ability to maintain a healthy lifestyle and quality of life — including the inability to chew or eat, mouth and gum pain, irritation because of ill-fitting dentures and implants, missing teeth, cavities, and decay.

Gosh, the Smile Dr is great!! I'm 77 and always went to a dentist. I got molars pulled, teeth filled with gold, root canals; you name it - I got it. I always had gum disease! So, I lost teeth....and made my way to a local free place, as I'm low income. I got dentures, but they were way too big. I couldn't close my mouth!! I looked like an orangutan!!! So I've been walking around with two teeth, hardly able to chew or eat! Now.....I'm on Medicare, but I wasn't on Aetna - - - yet. Three years ago I ended up with Aetna.....just a simple phone call. AND they allow me $1000 a year for dental. I don't pay Aetna. So....I luckily hooked up with the Smile Dr and couldn't (still can't) get over how wonderful a REAL dentist is!!! The office at 3000 L St, sac, is perfect. Seriously perfect. The front desk girls are so good at what they do....Lina and Ashley. The staff is Brianna, Leann, and Cherrie, and Dr Kim. They are all so very good...gentle and friendly and competent. I can't rave enough!! And....wait for it.....my copay is $50. That's it!!! $50 for my $1000. So half this year....half next year. They don't take just medicare, but if you get medicare you can get Aetna. So don't put it off. Get your teeth!!! Just cuz were old (yikes! I'm old!!!) doesn't mean to rot away!! And all the folks who look down on me for no teeth..... well I've got a surprise for you!!!! I went to the Smile Dr!!!! You go there too!!! Tell them I sent you!!! 💕
